Alivia Dulaney is a Senior majoring in Psychology, Criminology, and Sociology. Alivia was an intern for the HTS project in the spring of 2025.

Why did you want to intern with the TRC?

Over my college career and experience in criminology, I became increasingly interested in terrorism research specifically human trafficking. I heard about the TRC through various courses in criminology and sociology and it peaked my growing interest.

How has working at the TRC prepared you for your career and what have you learned?

Working at the TRC with the Human Trafficking Study has taught me not only how to look through documents and case files to find useful information and code this information in a way that is both precise and analytical. But, it has also taught me useful skills for career development and better prepared me for graduate school. Working with HTS made clear to me that I am more interested in terrorism research than I could have imagined, and that I am on the right path regarding my career plans.

What advice do you have for future interns?

I strongly encourage future interns to take this leap into the field of terrorism research and soak up as much knowledge from this role as possible. I truly have learned so much in this internship regarding not only the Human Trafficking Study and data coding, but I have also developed a skill set that I will be taking with me after graduation in order to navigate the professional world.
