Brittan Hutchison is a Junior majoring in both Psychology and Criminology. Brittan was an intern for the ECDB project in the fall of 2024.

Why did you want to intern with the TRC?

Not only do I stand with the TRC’s core values and mission, but when I attended the career fair and discussed what an internship looks like at the TRC, I knew how valuable this opportunity was. Another reason I wanted to be an intern at the TRC was because the past interns I spoke to and the employees—everyone speaks so highly of the community and family you established at the TRC—and I was searching for an internship that provides experience while establishing a nurturing environment.

How has working at the TRC prepared you for your career and what have you learned?

Working at the TRC has provided me with the experience of data analysis, coding, and proper research skills. It has prepared me for my future career by giving me the opportunity to learn how to operate in a collaborative setting and how to time manage.

What are your postgrad plans?

I hope to attend grad school and further my knowledge in my degree to be able to make a successful living in Washington, DC in the criminology field.

What advice do you have for future interns?

Don’t be afraid to be yourself; the TRC has such a welcoming community of people who are there for you no matter what. And don’t be afraid to ask for help!

What is a fun fact about yourself?

When I was 9 years old, I memorized the whole script of the movie Coraline, and I still know it to this day.
