Springfield, IL

The City of Springfield, often referred to as the “Home of President Abraham Lincoln”, houses the Lincoln Presidential Library and the Lincoln Tomb. Springfield is the capital city of Illinois with an estimated population over 116,000. Over 70% of residents in Springfield are reported to be White and the economy is dominated by those working in the Health Care and Public Administration industries. Springfield is Dr. Drawve’s hometown where he grew up and still has family residing.

Little Rock, AR

The City of Little Rock is located in Central Arkansas and is the state capital.  It is the most populated city in the state with an estimated population of over 197,000 residents and is comprised mostly of White (45.14%) and Black (41.97%) residents. Little Rock is historically known for the, Little Rock Nine (Central High – Forced Desegregation). Little Rock’s segregated past is still identifiable across neighborhoods today. Little Rock has continued to have high rates of crime compared to the national average and for similar cities with over 100,000 residents. Furthermore, Dr. Drawve received his PhD from UALR and lived in Little Rock, providing a research site with firsthand knowledge.

Fayetteville, AR

The City of Fayetteville is located in the Northwest region of Arkansas and has an estimated population of a little over 85,000 people as of 2019. Fayetteville is home to the University of Arkansas, the largest university in the state. Northwest Arkansas is also home to Walmart, Tyson Foods, and J.B. Hunt. The citizens of Fayetteville are 77.36% White and are 50.69% male. Median household income is 42,101 dollars and 12.31 percent of families report being below the poverty level. Fayetteville has received national recognition as one of the “best places to live”. With that, and as part of the mission of the University, CASDAL sought to work locally and assist with agencies/organizations within their own backyard.
