Congratulations to TRC graduate research assistants Taylor June and Austin Barber who earned their MA degrees in the Department of Sociology and Criminology at the University of Arkansas.

Taylor (BA, University of Arkansas) served as project manager for the Extremist Crime Database (ECDB) and Bias Homicide Database (BHDB) for the past two years. Her graduate thesis is titled “Court actor decision-making: The influence of victim characteristics on legal outcomes in cases of bias homicide” and examines how extralegal factors shape disposition and sentencing in cases of bias homicide. Taylor has been accepted into the doctoral program in the Department of Sociology & Criminology at The Ohio State University for Fall 2022.

Austin (BA, University of Nebraska) contributed to the U.S. Protests and Demonstration Events Database (USPDB) as a TRC graduate research assistant. His graduate thesis is titled “Examining the escalation to violence at political protests: A conjunctive analysis” and examines risk factors associated with the escalation to violence at Stop the Steal and Black Lives Matter protests. Austin has been accepted to the doctoral program in the School of Criminal Justice at Michigan State University for Fall 2022.
