Congratulations to Brynn Schuetter who successfully defended her master’s thesis on April 19th!

Using open-source data and a multi-method approach, her thesis finds that ideologically motivated mass shooters prepare for their attacks in significantly different ways than non-ideologically motivated mass shooters. Her findings were recently presented at the American Society of Criminology Annual Conference in Philadelphia.

Brynn graduates with her MA in Sociology (Criminology Concentration) in May 2024. Prior to this, she earned her BA in Psychology, Sociology, and Criminology in 2022 at the University of Arkansas.

She has served as Terrorism Research Center (TRC) Project Manager for the American Terrorism Study (ATS) housed in the Terrorism Research Center (TRC) for the last two years. During this time, she also co-authored two book chapters titled Murder as Violent Extremism (Routledge, 2024) and Bias Violence (Edward Elgar, 2024).

Following her graduation this spring, Brynn will be attending the doctoral program in Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of South Carolina beginning Fall 2024.
