Katie Sucher is a Junior with a double major in Biochemistry and Criminology with a minor in Legal Studies. Sucher was a BHDB intern in Spring 2024.

Why did you want to intern with the TRC?

I wanted to intern with the TRC because it sounded like an amazing opportunity to dip my toes into research! I had heard about the internship through Dr. Shields and thought it would be the perfect opportunity to get involved in the criminology field.

How has working at the TRC prepared you for your career and what have you learned?

The TRC allows for many networking opportunities and helps educate us on the varying experiences that can be achieved within the field. I have learned so much about different terrorists groups and bias crimes; not to mention, this has driven me to begin my honors thesis with Dr. Gruenewald covering attempted versus completed bias homidicides!

What are your postgrad plans?

My post grad plans involve attending law school! I am currently still researching different schools, but I am keeping my options open so that I can pick the one that will best suit my interests and needs.

What advice do you have for future interns?

Always stay organized! When is comes to coding and making case files, always keep up with the status of the cases you are assigned to. This will make the flow within the different levels of the data entry easier for everyone. It also helps to create a sheet with your hours, entailing what you have accomplished and when/where. Having this information on file will make weekly reports and journals easy to write up each week.

What is a fun fact about yourself?

I have been working at Chili’s for almost 4 years!
